Stage Makeup

This course will introduce students to the complexities of stage makeup. Utilizing a hands on approach, the course is specially designed to facilitate active learning while exploring basic makeup procedures and complex prosthetic makeup application.

COURSE GOALS

  • Develop an understanding of basic Theatrical makeup techniques including: using highlight and shadow to enhance, alter, age, and change facial features

  • Develop simple prosthetics from a life cast

  • Assemble a research morgue to aid in makeup design

  • Design a character makeup after play and character analysis

FINAL DESIGN PROJECT

Select a character from a play in the chosen list. Compile accompanying visual research for the design. Submit a proposal that will include: a brief synopsis and analysis of the play, a character analysis, a production concept, a description of the techniques you will use, and why you have chosen this particular character in this particular play. The design must include a prosthetic and may include false facial hair or eyebrow blocking.
