A study of the integration and process of theatrical production including scenery, lighting, costume, projection and sound and their individual impact on storytelling. While developing the skills of the Scenographer, students will work collaboratively as they foster their individual artistic design talents and recognize the impact of design on society through storytelling.

COURSE GOALS
Develop a visual language with the Elements & Principles of Design.
Engage with foundational design principles and the impact they have on the stage picture.
Apply ideas and aesthetics from various historical Art Movements in your research and project execution.
Through lecture and collaborative assignments, identify different Design/ Tech positions within the industry.
Through script analysis, break down the text from a design perspective.
Demonstrate research techniques, sourcing Evocative, Historical or Representational images, and representing both Primary & Secondary sources.
Use the language of critique to analyze and support your work and the work of others.
Engage in the full Design Process by breaking down a design and creating its paperwork, research, planning sketches, and final renderings/projects for each of the design areas.
Continue to build your portfolio and developing your sense of visual and verbal presentation.

FINAL DESIGN PROJECT
Scenic Sketchup Coloured Rendering
Importing the SketchUp model into Procreate, and colouring it digitally.
Fabric Drape
Fabric choice can impact a design, in its colour, texture, sheen, pattern, and in combination of those chosen layers. This project will involve translating a design to fabric on a miniature dress form.
Lighting 3D objects
Using a 3D object and a song inspired by our shared script, you will explore the impact that lighting and sound can have on a static stage image, using the Light Lab in 018.
